On this page you'll learn what we believe, as well as our formal code of doctrine and discipline. What we hope you'll learn is that we want to live the Jesus Way.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Jesus in Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
Church. Creed
We believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
We believe that Jesus is God's only Son, our Lord and Messiah, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was placed in a tomb; and that he rose from the dead.
He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit.
We believe that all believers are united as a family under Jesus, as one body.
We believe that each expression of the local church is a part of that body.
We believe in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and that the gift of God is eternal life.
We believe that the only way to God the Father is through Jesus.
"“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." - John 14:6 CSB
Who is God
God (YHWH) is the creator of all things. God is omniscient and omnipresent. There is no one else like God.
Who is Jesus
Jesus is the Son of God. Unique is his being. He was with God in the beginning (John 1) and is reigning in the end (Revelation) and all authority has been given to him by God (Matthew 28:19). Jesus stepped down from heaven and relied fully on God by becoming human. He is the only person to have lived a perfect life, free of sin, and chose to give his life as a sacrifice for the restoration and redemption of mankind. (See Romans 5)
Who is Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the helper sent by Jesus after His death. (John 15:26) The Holy Spirit is the third member of what is referred to in the Christian Faith as "the Trinity", sent to God’s Church to lead, strengthen and empower us for the work we are called to do. The Holy Spirit is God’s voice on the earth to teach, guide, comfort and intercede. The role of the Holy Spirit to to make us like Jesus.
Who is Mankind
Mankind was created by God, in His image. We are created to be a reflection of who God is, and to reflect His nature here on earth. We are responsible for caring for earth, the people living here, and everything else on earth that God created.
God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them
reflecting our nature
So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea,
the birds in the air, the cattle,
And, yes, Earth itself,
and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”
God created human beings;
he created them godlike,
Reflecting God’s nature.
He created them male and female.
God blessed them:
“Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge!
Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air,
for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”
-Genesis 1:26-28 MSG
About sin
We have all sinned against God, our Creator, and therefore are in need of our Savior, and we have one in Jesus, the Christ. Sin started in the hearts and actions of Adam and Eve and have been passed down to all of mankind. (Genesis 3)
About Water Baptism
Baptism does not bring about salvation or redemption, it is an act of obedience when committing your life to following Jesus. There is power in the act of water baptism as it shows the world that we have entered into a commitment to Christ, and to living the Way that He teaches. We believe that the decision to be baptized comes after someone makes the decision to be a follower of Jesus. At that point, they would immediately be baptized by immersion in water.
As we read in the scriptures, Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 MSG.
About Who Can Baptize Someone?
We believe that anyone who is a follower of Jesus can perform the act of baptism.
About Infant Baptism
We do perform infant baptism, however, we do believe that it is the role of a the parents (or guardian if parents aren't able to be present) to lead children in their faith. Therefore, we do believe that when someone wants to publicly declare their commitment to raising their children in the Way of Jesus, a child dedication is the way to honoring that commitment. Child dedications would include gathering the community to lay hands on you and pray over your kiddo as a community to show our respect for your commitment and to also give our commitment to walk beside you in that journey.
About Women Leading, Preaching and Teaching
There are many examples of women teaching, preaching, and leading in the Bible. As it says in Genesis 1:27 "So God created human beings[d]
in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." While men and women have many differences, when it comes to sharing the Word of God, we believe that men and women are both called to do so.
About Salvation
God created us to be in relationship with Him and due to sin we were separated. To redeem us, in His great love, He sent Jesus to be the atoning sacrifice, and fulfillment of the law. (John 3:16)
It is by Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross we are saved, redeemed and made in right standing with God allowing us to have a relationship with God. (Romans 5:18-19)
We believe that our focus is to love God and love people so we can focus on making disciples of Jesus. We do not believe we are in the salvation business, because he weight of dealing with salvation is carried on the shoulders of Christ alone.
"A bystander said, “Master, will only a few be saved?”He said, “Whether few or many is none of your business. Put your mind on your life with God. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires your total attention. A lot of you are going to assume that you’ll sit down to God’s salvation banquet just because you’ve been hanging around the neighborhood all your lives. Well, one day you’re going to be banging on the door, wanting to get in, but you’ll find the door locked and the Master saying, ‘Sorry, you’re not on my guest list.’ (Luke 13:23-25 MSG)
About Spiritual Gifts
We believe that Spiritual Gifts are alive and active today and that God chooses to empower His people with those gifts as He sees fit so they will be used to build His church and lead people back to Himself. We believe that Paul gives clear instructions regarding the use of spiritual gifts in the worship gathering (1 Corinthians)
About Holy Scripture
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. God is perfect and humans are not, but God chose to use imperfect people to tell His perfect story so we trust that God‘s truth will always come through the scriptures if we "ask, seek, knock." (Matthew 7:7)
We believe that all scripture before Jesus walked the earth was pointing us to his arrival, and all scripture after Jesus life on earth is pointing back to Jesus because He is at the center of this beautiful, hope-filled story.
About the Church
We believe our purpose on earth is to be disciple makers, and we trust God to deal with everything else. Jesus has all authority in heaven and earth and tells us to make disciples, baptize them, and teaching them to obey everything He said. (Matthew 28:18-20).
About How We Live
We are called to live according to the example set by Jesus and the command he gave: “I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35 CSB)
About Questions and Doubts
In a sentence, we won't always agree...but we won't argue.
There is a story in the Scriptures about Jacob wrestling the angel in Genesis 32. In that story Jacob struggles, he's exhausted and tired, and in the end his hip is injured so it hurts and he walks away limping. We believe that is a perfect metaphor for wrestling with the Holy Scriptures. When you wrestle with the text, you will walk away limping. Unfortunately, many people who wear the label of "Christian" have no limp, because they haven’t wrestled. But the ones limping have had an experience with the living God.
We have a saying to help us remember how important it is to wrestle with the text:
May we always walk away limping.
About Resolving Conflict
We believe that Jesus gave clear instructions for how his followers are supposed to handle conflict within the church in Matthew 18.
“Look at it this way. If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders off, doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine and go after the one? And if he finds it, doesn’t he make far more over it than over the ninety-nine who stay put? Your Father in heaven feels the same way. He doesn’t want to lose even one of these simple believers.
15-17 “If a fellow believer hurts you, go and tell him—work it out between the two of you. If he listens, you’ve made a friend. If he won’t listen, take one or two others along so that the presence of witnesses will keep things honest, and try again. If he still won’t listen, tell the church. If he won’t listen to the church, you’ll have to start over from scratch, confront him with the need for repentance, and offer again God’s forgiving love."
Matthew 18:12-17 MSG
About Worship
Worship is about more than singing a few songs. Our lives are supposed to be an act of worship. We believe that Paul gives us clear instructions for this in Romans 12
"So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you." Romans 12:1-2
About Authority
We believe that God is the ultimate authority and we are all part of His Church so we are accountable to God.
We use the Holy Scriptures as our guide for how to lead, and be lead.
Our leadership team, through direction of the Holy Spirit, has the responsibility of sharing vision and direction to guide the church.
To maintain integrity within the church, our leadership shall seek council from elders inside the church as well as other pastors outside the church.
About Denominations
We are a non-denominational expression of the Christian Church. We believe that the scriptures teach us that the Church is the people, not a building or denomination so all who believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior would be considered "the Church". Dominations tend to be created out of differences regarding how one group believes certain scriptures should be interpreted.
