We’ve all felt it, that heavy, nagging feeling that the world is a bit darker than it’s supposed to be. We see the news, we feel the tension in our own homes, and sometimes we wonder if the "good life" is just something we’re waiting for in the next world.

But here’s the thing we believe at Church: Resurrection Sunday isn't just a look back at a miracle that happened 2,000 years ago. It’s not just a promise that we’ll get to heaven one day. It is the explosive, ground-shaking proof that heaven is invading earth right now.

When Jesus walked out of that grave, He didn't just beat death; He started a revolution of hope. He showed us that the "way things are" isn't the way they have to stay. Because He lives, we have the power, right here, in our messy, everyday lives, to bring a little bit of heaven down to our neighborhoods, our living rooms, and our workplaces.

The Morning Everything Changed

Let’s look at the story again. Imagine the atmosphere. It’s early. It’s quiet. The air is cold, and the hearts of Jesus' followers are heavier than the stone blocking the tomb. They thought it was over. They thought the dream had died on a Friday.

But Mark 16:1-8 (NLT) tells us a different story:

1 Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body. 2 Very early on Sunday morning, just at sunrise, they went to the tomb. 3 On the way they were asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” 4 But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside.

5 When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The women were shocked, 6 but the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body. 7 Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died.”

8 The women fled from the tomb, trembling and bewildered, and they said nothing to anyone because they were too frightened.

Can you blame them for being frightened? Their whole world had just been flipped upside down. The stone, the massive, impossible obstacle, was gone. The body was gone. The message was clear: He is risen.

An empty tomb with the stone rolled away at sunrise, symbolizing Jesus' resurrection and hope.

Living Like the Tomb is Empty

If Jesus is alive, it means His mission didn't stop at the cross. It means His mission was handed over to us. We’re not just fans of Jesus; we’re His hands and feet.

When we talk about "bringing heaven to earth," it can sound like a big, mystical theological concept. But at Church, we believe it’s actually quite simple. It’s about following His lead. It’s about looking at how Jesus loved people and saying, "Okay, I’m going to do that too."

Bringing heaven to earth starts when we step outside of ourselves to care for the people around us. Jesus spent His time with the forgotten, the hungry, and the hurting. If we want to experience the power of the resurrection, we have to go where He is.

We see this happening through our outreach efforts. When we feed the hungry or provide clothes for those in need we aren't just doing "charity work." We are declaring that in God’s Kingdom, no one goes hungry. We are making the invisible love of God visible to a world that desperately needs to see it.

The Kingdom at the Kitchen Sink

Here’s where it gets really real. Sometimes, it’s easier to go across town to serve a stranger than it is to love the people we live with. But if the resurrection doesn't change how we treat our families, are we really living out the hope of Easter?

We believe that following Jesus’ example of love starts in the home. It’s in the way you look at your husband or wife. It’s in the patience you show your kids when you’re tired and they’re being... well, kids.

A father and child doing dishes together, showing practical love and service in the home.

Think about this: Jesus, the King of the Universe, washed His disciples' feet. He did the "lowly" work. He served them.

You can bring heaven to earth this week by doing the dishes without being asked. You can bring heaven to earth by folding that mountain of laundry to lighten the load for your spouse. When we serve our families with a joyful heart, we are showing our kids what the love of Jesus looks like in real time. We are teaching them that love isn't just a feeling; it's an action. It’s an example of sacrifice and grace.

Serving Our Local Expression of the Church

The resurrection also calls us into community. Notice what the angel told the women: "Go and tell his disciples." Jesus didn't just want individuals to know He was alive; He wanted a family to know.

We aren't meant to live this life alone. We need each other. One of the most practical ways to bring heaven to earth is by serving in our local expression of the Church. Whether it’s welcoming a newcomer at the door, helping out with the kids, or just being there to listen to someone who’s having a rough week, your service matters.

When we gather, we create a space where people can encounter the living God. If you’re curious about why we do what we do, you can check out what we believe. But more than reading about it, we’d love for you to experience it. Serving is how we move from being spectators to being participants in the miracle.

Don't Let Fear Have the Last Word

In the scripture we read, the women fled the tomb "trembling and bewildered." They were scared. And honestly, sometimes the idea of living like Jesus is a little scary. It requires us to lay down our pride. It requires us to give up our time. It requires us to step out of our comfort zones.

But the angel’s first words were, "Don’t be alarmed."

The resurrection gives us the confidence to stop living in fear. We don't have to fear failure, we don't have to fear "not having enough," and we don't have to fear death. Because the tomb is empty, we are free to give our lives away in love.

We are free to be the kind of people who bring peace where there is conflict, hope where there is despair, and help where there is need.

Join the Journey

This Resurrection Sunday, let's not just celebrate a historical event. Let's commit to being "resurrection people."

Let’s be the people who feed the hungry.
Let’s be the people who love our spouses with everything we’ve got.
Let’s be the people who show our kids that serving is the highest calling.
Let’s be the people who make our Church a place of radical worship, welcome and healing.

If you’re looking for a place to explore what this looks like, or if you just need someone to talk to about your own journey, please contact us. We are all just fellow travelers trying to figure out how to live in the light of the empty tomb.

Heaven is coming, friends. But through the power of the risen Jesus, a little bit of it is already here. Let's go out and share it.

Happy Resurrection Sunday! We'll see you soon.
